They need a few adjustments and will be replacing the seats to fit our non-20 year old butts.&nbsp; Otherwise very happy with the purchase.&nbsp;</div>]]>

Not a good bike for off road in sand but on a fairly solid surface they do fine. We bought different more comfortable seats other than that they have been good useful bikes for us.]]>

The $400 does everything the $6K one does. It just isn't made of higher grade materials, lighter tubing, top end components, etc.. <br></div><div><br></div><div>Remember: Strong, Light, Inexpensive.. Pick two. <br></div><div><br></div><div>Disc brakes on bicycles started about 20 years ago. They have matured a long way from the first ones, and the technology has moved down stream to much less expensive bikes then they debuted on.. Just like cruise control and air bags in cars.. Disc brakes are in general, much better then rim brakes, but both work. <br></div>]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://www.rpod-owners.com/member_profile.asp?PF=6036" rel="nofollow">lostagain</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 12667<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 17 Mar 2019 at 9:17am<br /><br />For standard frame bikes, i.e. steel and aluminum, most of the frames are made in Taiwan by subcontractors to the specific manufacturer's specs. &nbsp;Carbon fiber frames are a different matter, but they will be way, way out of your price range, unless you wan to spend north of $3000. &nbsp;The components on the bikes, such as d<span style="font-family: arial, sans-serif;">erailleurs, shifting levers, brakes, etc. are where you are likely to have issues, so make sure they are all of decent quality and are adjusted properly. &nbsp;There is nothing more frustrating than climbing a hill, trying to shift to a lower gear, then find your chain has come off and you're peddling air. &nbsp;Don't worry quite so much about the brand name of the bike as the quality of the components.</span><div><span style="color: rgb106, 106, 106; font-family: arial, sans-serif;"><br></span></div><div><span style="color: rgb106, 106, 106; font-family: arial, sans-serif;">I bought a Specialized Rockhopper and it has given me good service for over 25 years, though it is now outdated compared to the new bikes. &nbsp;Sometimes I think about buying a new "comfort" bike, but I'm not ready to yield to the onset of senility. &nbsp;There are also a lot of good compact folding bikes that would serve well, provided no trail rides are contemplated. &nbsp;Also, one might consider a folding electric bike which is essentially a folding bike with a battery and electric motor added. &nbsp;</span></div>]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://www.rpod-owners.com/member_profile.asp?PF=6036" rel="nofollow">lostagain</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 12667<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 16 Mar 2019 at 6:28pm<br /><br />A word of caution: &nbsp;Be careful buying second had bikes from private parties. &nbsp;A lot of them are stolen and in the very unlikely chance that an id check is run on the serial number, it may be a little inconvenient. &nbsp;<div><br></div><div>You can find a good selection of used bikes at shops that repair bikes. &nbsp;And you have the benefit of a legitimate bill of sale. &nbsp;They also go through the bikes and make sure everything is working properly. &nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>As for carrying the bikes on the back of the Pod, the 1 1/4" receiver can hold a lightweight 2 bike rack with two relatively light bikes, but if things get heavier, you could find your receiver has broken loose and your bikes are about 20 miles behind you. &nbsp;There are some good bike racks that fit the receiver on Amazon. &nbsp;</div>]]>

You can keep them in the TV or the trailer, you don't need to fool around with a rack and strapping them or locking them up, and you can use them when you're not camping for a variety of things as well.&nbsp; That's what I do.&nbsp;]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://www.rpod-owners.com/member_profile.asp?PF=1146" rel="nofollow">jato</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 12667<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 16 Mar 2019 at 5:44pm<br /><br />For a good 20 years we have been Trek fans, everything from mountain to road bikes, even a 21 speed tandem, lots of great memories.&nbsp; For the last 12 years we have moved from Trek to Specialized, which has a great selection of mountain as well as road bikes engineered and designed for older riders.&nbsp; My DW really appreciates her Specialized Sirrus road bike; with her artificial knee riding is not near as painful as it was with other bikes.&nbsp; Like the Trek's, these are not cheap either, but then again, you get what you pay for.<br>]]>

They don't have "knobby" tires, so we can ride them on hard surfaces without excessive vibration and noise. They weren't exactly cheap, but they are not exotic either. They're both 21 speed, so they each have what is called a triple crank. <br>]]>

There is so much diversity in our interest from beaches to mountains..<div><br></div><div>Is there a most versatile that won't break the bank.&nbsp; &nbsp;Seriously have been checking pawn shops and craigslist&nbsp; .&nbsp; We don't want anything expensive that may be lost , stolen, or damaged. on a trip.&nbsp; I think we do want something with larger tires (off road type) vs a road bike made for speed.&nbsp; &nbsp;A light weight frame would be good but has to be strong as well.&nbsp; &nbsp;Preferred method of carry would be a bike rack on the back of the Pod.&nbsp; I can carry in the back of the truck if needed&nbsp; but that would take up a lot of my storage and packing space.&nbsp; Finding something for better half is my biggest concern.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div>]]>
