Author: StephenH
Subject: 12362
Posted: 30 Oct 2018 at 9:33am

If you do this, make sure you leave the square area and space around it for cold air return, otherwise, you will be just recirculating much of the hot air back through the furnace. If you take the cover off, you will see better what I mean. The output is an L shaped area. The square is intake and sail switch and the perimeter of the cover is additional cold air return. A lasagna pan is not the ideal diverter as it would not allow for proper cold air return. There was one built that was a proper one that left the proper areas open for circulation and just fit around the output area to divert the airflow outward. Look for that design. It would be much harder to build, but would be safer and more effective.

Instead of that, I use an O2 Cool 10" fan and a 12V adapter cord. I place that in the opening next to the wardrobe to pull the hot air out and circulate it to the larger area of our 179. The side closer to the dinette and furnace is open for cold air return. This has worked well and the constant fan sound helps cover the furnace's cycling on and off.
