I drove into downtown Nashville today and for kicks had the EEZ tire system ON. The outside temp was 88. My truck tires which are 18" and Michelins, were at 101-103 degrees. I have noticed and was surprised that when I have the Pod on, the 14" tires on the Pod are somewhat hotter. That makes sense to me. Good point. I guess I've been living in moderate temperatures too long.

I did just see a TT yesterday (not an R-pod), where they were pulling it up onto a flatbed. IDK what went wrong, but as I glanced at it going the opposite direction, I could see the driver's side tire was all but destroyed, and the wheel looked pretty well gone as well. I didn't see any other obvious damage, but I only had a short glance at it. Curious, as it was on a city street, and in that location, gong the direction they were going, the speed limit was 35. Several miles from any freeway, and in California, the speed limit towing a trailer is 55.

I took a shot at googling it, and it said that tires will run about 50 degrees hotter than the outside temperature. They did add driving 60 mph for  one half hour. I dont know if longer times at same speed would change it. If thats the case my tire temp was really good. I believe it was atleast 80 degrees so my hubs being 97 sound like they are good. I will have to start taking outside temp into account from now on, and see if i can come up with a "normal" range above ambient. I have a EEZ Tire TPMS, and the variances in temps are interesting. I can monitor pressure and temps on 6 tires. Difference in weather, outside temps, road surface and speed, is what I've seen. 120 on the tires sounds pretty high to me. I usually just put my hand on the hubs/tires, and warm is OK. I always check my hubs with a laser thermometer whenever I stop. I want to make sure my bearing are staying cool. I assume this is an accurate way to check, because the hubs would heat up if the bearings did. Of course if I just came down a long hill, I would get a warmer reading do to excessive braking. I also have just begun checking the tire temp as well. I checked them the other day after an hour and a half of driving 65 mph, and the hubs were 97 degrees and the tires were 120 degrees. I think these numbers sound ok, but does anyone know what good numbers would be, or more important, what are bad numbers. I'm driving from New Hampshire to Pennsylvania (about 5 - 6 hours) on friday.
