The camping on both sides of the pass is spectacular. One place especially nice is Pacific Valley Campground, along Pacific Creek. The Forrest service says it’s not recommended for trailers but is easy to go there with a Pod.

Ebbett's Pass is the steepest pass in CA. I lost my brakes on the NV side in my old '89 F-350 4x4 with a 10ft' Alaskan cabover. Stopped at the top of the pass to take a photo and when I got back into the truck the brake pedal went to the floor! NOT a good feeling!!! I put it into low range and we creeped down the mountain. (The plastic parts in the brake calipers stuck and caused the brakes to heat up and the brake fluid boiled. [Plastic parts] must have been one of Ford's 'Better Ideas'.) NOT!!!

It's a pretty place to be. We've kayaked a LOT at Lake Alpine, and also Utica Reservoir.
