I really don't think an impact driver is the right tool for this, but I'm not sure it would cause a problem. I wouldn't want to use any tool on the screw unless it was turning freely by hand anyway.  (I don't mean when it's lifting the tire, of course.  If you can do that by hand you're a better man than me.)

Every part of my new BAL leveler is steel.  I agree, a light coating of grease from time to time is good.

I think the screw is steel as well as the socket in which it rotates. However, too much force and too little lubrication can cause the metal to gall and seize. I've had nuts and bolts seize on me when tightening them, so the same thing might be happening with the jack screw.

It's a good idea to place a short piece of 1 x under the tire, That makes sliding the BAL under easier, and out easier for sure, if you get some "settling".
The best thing about the BAL is you can put the Pod EXACTLY where you want it, and then get it EXACTLY level.
We used ours for 6 seasons, loved it. Seriously considered building a drive unit so I could use 2 at once on the new camper.

I just got one.  Works great if you can get it under your tire.  I have 14" tires and has way too much trouble getting the BAL under it on pavement.  I've only used it twice so far, once on dirt and once on pavement.  Worked fine on dirt.
