One of the seats in a 177 contains the electrical distribution and inverter, so it would be considerable work to remove it. The dinette seat by the door is storage space and if it is carefully removed it will give you some space and could be replaced. Or as suggested you could remove the cushions and put it in bed configuration and put the kennels on top of that.

Or.. if you had a 178/177, just put the dinette in "bed mode" and put the crates up there. We had Micah's crate up on the street side bench for a season, ans still had the curbside bench and table to use...

But I understood the OP to already have a 179.. but if he/they/she is/are still shopping..

We also did/do almost all our cooking and eating outside..

Yes. I saw a 178, the couple removed the entire dinette and replaced with 2 RV recliners and ate off TV trays. Personally I would leave the forward seat in as it provides the storage area in front of Pod, but you could work around that. Well, here I go upsetting the 179 folks. If I needed space for dog crates I would pick a model with a forward dinette. Remove the two side benches, leave the forward bench. Store them away, so they could be put back. I would have dog crates, a bench and wouldn't be messing with a slide out dinette. We only deal with one crate, but we just put it up on the bed, or between the dinette seats.. but we had a 177...

In a 179, and needing space for 3 crates, I would definitely go with them on the bed, OR, I would build a removable platform on top the settee base that was big enough for the 3.. Our wire crate folds up, so that helps..

I'm looking to remove or modify the dinette in the 179 (I haven't purchased yet) to convert the area for 3 36"x23" wire dog crates.

These crates will NOT be used while driving, only while feeding the dogs or when I step out temporarily.

If you have advice, and better yet, pictures, please provide.
