In Oregon, we never have extended below freezing times — at least in the Portland area.  I have never had a frozen water pipe at my home in over 20 years and there are exposed pipes.  I have never had a water hose freeze or crack even if they sit outside all winter.  It seems to me like winterizing is not necessary in Oregon (Portland) area but I did it anyway for the chance that December-February-January can be the iffy cold months.  Anyway — I am so grateful for all the responses and advice.  I can do this!

Add a caveat to the above advice. If the weather is projected to be below freezing for an extended period or if it is really low (teens or single-digits), winterize.

If it is only expected to be in the low 30's or high 20's overnight AND you have heat in the 'Pod, you should be safe to not winterize, especially if the temps will be well above freezing the next day. We did some extensive traveling with temps below freezing with water in the system. The only time we had anything freeze on us was when we were traveling and it stayed below during the day while we were moving and the heat was not on. The intake line from the fresh water tank froze, but it thawed the following day with no issues.

Find the latest frost date for your area and use that as a guide.
