Anyone towing with a Volvo XC 60? : If Volvo says 3500 lbs capacity,...

    Author: shroomer
Subject: 11117
Posted: 04 Feb 2018 at 6:55am

If Volvo says 3500 lbs capacity, I would tend to believe them and use that as a guide. The company is known for their emphasis on safety and I wouldn't think that they'd game the towing figures. The 177 isn't the heaviest r-pod (that's why we got ours) and you should be well under the limit. One reason we buy r-pods is that they're light and can be towed with SUV's and don't require pickup trucks.

That said, there are other factors that should be weighed. First is your Gross Vehicle Weight. You're probably in the range where you can load your vehicle with about 1000 - 1100 lbs. You'll have to find this number (look on your door frame). This includes your passengers, cargo, and the weight of the trailer. Add it up. If it's just you, a partner, and a small cat, there shouldn't be a problem. If you've got a family of four with two teenagers and an overweight golden retriever, then you might be pushing the weight limit of the car.

Another factor is where you are going. Flat lands, Rockies, 10,000 mile trips, or just local camping. Be reasonable in your loading and your speed (55-60) and you should do fine.

I would rather NOT have a 3500 pound capacity T.V. if I had a choice. Your tow vehicle capacity in reality should be no less than 80% of the max cargo weight of your T.T. Judging the weight of a T.T. by using the dry weight, is almost a dirty trick in my opinion. Sure, you can pull this camper, but, you cant bring anything with you. I would fear having this set up if I got into an accident. You will almost surely be deemed overweight. If god forbid there were serious injury, who knows what will happen.

The towing capacity is 3500# so it should have the ability to handle the towing but just wanted to hear from anyone that may already be towing with this vehicle. I don't need the room (or expense) of the XC 90 but would consider if the XC 60 isn't adequate.

Thanks so much!
