My YETI Tundra is an ice chest that can keep ice (not even dry ice, that would be longer) for over a week. On one of my tests it was almost two weeks. They are used by campers, river runners, fishermen & -women, field camp workers, anyone who needs to be able to count on their cooler to do it's job. I've only had my YETI for about 8 years, but have always had good ice chests. I keep it covered with insulated bubblepack or a canvas tarp, and throw an insulated sleeping bag over the top of it; so even a less efficient cooler will keep ice longer using that method. 

The YETI, when padlocked, is bear-proof: "The YETI Tundra® and Roadie® meet the Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee (IGBC) standards for bear-resistant containers when used with extra-long shank Master locks. Our hard coolers have been thoroughly tested in both controlled bear simulations and with wild grizzly bears. When padlocks are used properly, grizzlies get nothing but frustrated after coming across your cooler."

It was inspired by the process of roto-molded plastic used for kayaks. When padlocked, bears just cannot get a claw-hold on it. Not that I will participate in that testing but it's good to know! The ice chests I grew up with and until relatively recently, could not be sat or stood on as it would damage the seals. This thing is indestructible. I even use it for grocery shopping since we live away from town. I use it for pretty much everything but backpacking :-)

We took our first trip in our 179, not including time spent with it on our land in the coast mountains. It was easy! No, I didn't do the driving - but it was obvious it was going smoothly and the driver/my sweetheart talked about about easy it is to tow. He loved it! It was during the heat wave (northern Californians have a different perspective on heat :-) so even though we were on the coast of Marin County, California, we laid low. Our campsite didn't have trees and we had put up our shade shelter up in relatives' campsite so during the hottest part of the hottest day (Fathers' Day) we read inside RPod for a few hours. We were surprised - and delighted - how comfy it was inside, and without turning on the A/C. This is a huge benefit for us because we're both heat wimps; heat and lightning are about the only conditions that can keep us from enjoying being outside. Our city water hose was leaking because the brass fitting on the hose was defective. Mr. Fixit resolved that by buying a replacement at the ACE Hardware in Point Reyes Station, CA (a great ACE, for the record if you're on the road and need something; although you wouldn't want to try to park your trailer in downtown; we left ours at Olema Campground). For the record they had the hoses at the campground store as well. I will be inclined to buy a backup just in case. Stovetop, lights, water heater, kitchen faucet & sink, radio and FRIDGE worked great! We did most of our cooking outside because we love that (it wasn't buggy) but the inside cooking we did do went well also. We used the campground bathhouse so our bathroom made a great storage area for the multitudes of extra sleeping bags & what-not we had brought along for our relatives "just in case". Being lifetime "on your own with only the supplies you bring with" campers, the biggest adjustment will be getting used to not bringing every piece of survival gear we own. Well depending on where we're going of course. And who's going with us. The relatives did basically the same thing, so between us all we could have sheltered several more people! We're looking forward to our next adventure in July :-) I will strive to leave a few extra pieces of gear behind, but I am never going camping without my YETI, no matter how well the RPod fridge works :-)  So all in all a FUN trip, and look forward to reading more here about others' trips - hearing others' adventures is a big part of the joy. ]]> Tue, 27 Jun 2017 11:38:52 +0000 https://www.rpod-owners.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=10244&PID=95624#95624
