We noticed the same thing.  "Different strokes for different folks".  I think it depends on your expectations, desires and life style.

Small with nice amenities works for us as we are out for adventures and the "frog" represents a base camp with some comfortable amenities nothing more.  It doesn't speak to who we are, our lifestyle, or where we are in the economic pecking order.  We purchased it for the utility it provides and the ability to expand the window for adventures, meet kindred souls out doing and enjoying the same things we enjoy.

We camped in a tent for a long time.  After the kids got older we moved up to our RPod.  It always seemed to me that the tent campers were friendlier.  I think it is that they were always outside and spoke to people out on their walks.  The RVers were always inside watching satellite TV.
Even though we've had an RPod since 2009 we like to think that we are tent campers with hard sides (wish I could take credit for the saying).

We were those people.  Back in 2010 we got our first tent trailer then graduated to a 27 foot Cougar.  That wasn't enough so we got a 40 foot Bighorn fifth wheel.  We found ourselves doing EXACTLY that--driving all the way to the "camp" site only to sit in the trailer.  After some serious soul searching we did a major downsizing two years ago and found ourselves with a Pod.  Best decision ever!

LOL.. we observed this in a very compact manner at the International Rally.. all the Pods were parked together in the village, we had 3 groups, each with a campfire in a can, visiting etc.. take the dogs for a walk.. not many others outside in the evenings, and the bigger the rig, or more $$$.. the fewer were out it seemed.

Sounds like a McMansion community near me where I often pass through on bicycle. Kinda creepy. Perfectly manicured lawns, large decks, spotless BBQs, sparkling pools...and no people. Very odd.

While camping, I have found the glow from the 60 inch plasma on the second floor of the BigHorn 5th wheel to be kinda creepy.

I talked with a fellow Podder from Colorado this weekend about the R Pod. He said he use to have a 40' pusher and him and his wife decided to get a R Pod. With the big rig he stated they stayed inside most of the time and did not socialize with fellow campers. With the Pod it made them get out more and enjoy the outdoors. Watching around our camp site that was a statement spot on. Most folks in big campers are seldom out.
