I looked at a lot of small trailers before Di and I bought our 177.  Many, if not most, were the size of the Pod or smaller (many were true teardrops, basically beds in rolling boxes).   I really liked the Camp-Inn product (loved the construction)....but we didn't buy that.   Then a few were larger, longer etc.  We didn't buy any of those either.

We did buy the 177 because it met the needs, our specs...was both towable with a smaller truck and could be driveway parked.  Everything else well....wasn't an R-Pod!  The rest was..well, too big, too small, too wide etc.

I'd say leave the dimensions as they are, though I think a lower shower/wet bath floor would be nice.  With the slide of the 177 the Pod is roomy enough for us two.  Lower overall height may make a difference in towing resistance, but maybe not enough to be worthwhile.

Then again....a polishable all aluminum skin Pod ala Airstream....now THAT might be interesting!   LOL

This forum is about "what if".  That might include changes across the whole line, or additions to existing models, or additions of new models (like the slides).  Change is good.

No one said that extending the width of the 'pod would mean changing every model.

I don't think anyone has to worry about FR changing the Pod....they're selling way too many of them!  However, someone's thinking and dreaming brought about the slide models and then, the tent models (both introduced since I purchased mine).  If you ask the people who bought the slides - they think they are the greatest!!!!  I bet they are really glad that FR "changed" the Pod.
If FR would feel inclined to go with a wider Pod with a bigger shower, etc. (as mentioned above) it is more likely that they would add it to the Pod family (like the slides & tents) as opposed to replacing models that are selling very well.  Call it a Pod+, Super Pod, whatever.
 
Most of us are just laid back folks "shooting the breeze" around the "cyber-campfire"...as best as I can tell, "that never hurt nobody".  As I've written many times before - we all liked 'em enought to plunk down five digits for one.

I just don't understand the continuing desire to turn this into something it's not.  If you want bigger, buy bigger.  There are hundreds of choices out there.  I'd prefer the FR does not do that to the R-Pod.  When I want big, I just go into my Jay Flight 26-BH.  When I want something that's small enough to take into the State Parks and off-road campsites, that's what I want the R-Pod for.
 
Stop trying to make the R-Pod something that it's not.  Smile

Take a look at the new 'square-sided' TT from FR, already for sale, if you need a wider and heavier TT.
I would hate to see the R-Pods slowly get bloated.  I bought mine precisely because it
was narrower and lighter than most any thing else on the market.

Outbound, once the shower is 6" wider that would be the longer dimension for the shower pan, so they could mount the showerhead on the outer wall and you would stand "sideways".  Would that solve your problem?
 
David and Danette - I agree that I like to see around the 'pod, but mounting towing mirrors would solve that.  Our popup extends out 6" beyond the axle on both sides.  Its very wide.  While I couldn't see straight back, I could still see enough.  Sometimes I would do a little wiggle on the rig to see farther back, but that was rare.

I would vote for a wider Pod.  It would not take much to make a significant difference in the "feel" of the unit. 
 
I wonder if anyone is up to doing that MOD! (I'll donate the sawzall blades!)Big smile

      Would like the extra space you would get  having the Rpod 171 wider, but it would be to wide for our tow vehicles mirrors. I like being able to see the sides of the trailer when towing. A slightly wider (maybe 6") bath would be nice.  Perhaps adding in one of those tiny RV sinks while they're at it.  But, to tell you the truth, its not the width of the bathroom that I have a real issue with - its the length (front-to-back).  It would be really nice if the shower pan was 6" longer (or if the toilet was slightly redesigned to move it towards the rear a bit and perhaps consume not so much space front-to-back).  When using the shower, I constantly feel like I'm going to trip over the toilet.

While I'm at it, I'd also prefer if the shower pan could be redesigned to be flush with the floor.  I'm only 6' tall and I feel like I'm brushing the ceiling; it really adds to the claustrophobic feeling in there.

This came up in another thread, I'm reposting this here in the Wish List forum.

I checked out about 20 ultralights online when I was searching last summer.  Most lacked one major feature or another - and the ones that had all the options were all bland like all the other campers on the market.  The 'pod meets most of my fantasy wants - but I would love a slightly bigger wet bath and and easier way to get in and out of the queen bed on our 171.  The slide-out on the 177 would solve the later but I'm reluctant to get a slide-out for several reasons.

So, my fantasy would be a 'pod, but with the side walls moved outward to the full width of the axle.  That would allow for more than enough room w/o a slide-out to have a larger bath, full-sized queen, and a little more room to move around (and get in-and-out of the bed).
