There is a section of thin vinyl material around the bottom of the r-dome that lays flat on the ground. It's about a foot long, and it is meant to act as a type of barrier between the bottom of the dome and the ground. There are loops on it to secure it to the ground with pegs, but they don't hold it down well in a strong storm. The pegs are thin metal rods, so the holes are not too noticeable. Not sure what year your r-pod is, but be sure to check that this dome is compatible, ours has the larger rail. The opening measures 1/2 inch on the inside. I want an RDome for traveling with my 2 old collies and I live in Knoxville, TN. I'm not quite sure what you mean about "pounding pegs into the storm flap on the ground around the perimeter." I see what you were trying to do - secure the Dome, but not sure what the storm flap is or what kind of holes it now has in it. Sorry, I'm a newbie at all this. Love to have it work for us, though.
