Pretty happy with the results of this project.  Needed a place to charge phones, mifi, tablets etc, and found plenty of room above the radio for ports and a place to put the device while charging.  Added switches to the voltmeter and charging ports for battery life and darkness at night.
Hardest part was matching stain color with the cabinetry.  Close enough, I guess.

Credit goes to Wood River Pod for this info.  Go to your nearest Sherwin Williams and ask for a quart of "Jeff's Rpod Brown" in satin enamel.  Really good match and it's in their computer.  If you're looking for a stain, apply 3-4 coats of this, also from Sherwin Williams:

Yes, looks great, and, across all vintages of Pods.. stain matching is a pain. I did it manually a couple times.. I swore if I did any interior work on another Pod I hadn't already matched, I was going to make the owners paint.. LOL

Hutch, nice!! I have taken my radio out a few times and thought about doing something with the empty space above it. This is a winner!!

Hutch, Finally did it, Thanks for the idea!!!
All my wires came in from the top, so it was easier to move the radio up. I was able to just unscrew the mullion and move it up. You can see the holes where the radio used to be, still need to fill them and still need a door. Every cu in counts!

If you want the gloss to (sort of )match , try some clear Deft.  It is a brushing lacquer .
