I installed a propane quick disconnect for use with a Wave 3 catalytic heater.  We boondock and want to conserve battery power as much as possible.

I installed a tee between the stove and the propane line.

And ran a 6' propane line with quick disconnect to under the refrigerator.

Here's the Wave 3 catalytic heater (still in bag) connected to the propane line.

Do you think the buddy heater is as efficient as this? Buddy heaters I already have...
I didn't realize the furnace used so much power with the fan. When I bought my camper I figured propane heat should be good for days and days. I did just get the two 6v batteries so that should help. Thanks for posting about the heater, I am going to look into them.

I built my own heater it runs on propane and uses 1amp of power. It's hot water heat using the HWT as a boiler, it is very quiet and works great.

Marwayne, I like your response!  Can you further elaborate on how you did the heater?  We boondock a lot and this sounds like a great idea.  Thanks

There's been a bunch of posts on other forums comparing Buddy heaters and the Wave 3 heater.

Neither the Buddy heaters nor the Wave 3 heater are 100% efficient. Both are very near 100% efficient though. The Buddy heaters are much less expensive. I expect that both work well, and neither requires any battery power to operate.

I really like Marwayne's hydronic heat modification though. I'm not sure I'm up to duplicating it though.

The Marwayne Hydronic Heater definitely gets the PodMod of the Century award! And..no doubt a lot cheaper than the http://aquahot.com/Products/Cab-Heaters-Auxiliary-Heaters/AH-100-Cab-Heater.aspx - Aqua-Hot Cabin Heaters I have considered.

What is the current draw for the fan motor and circulating pump?  This seems like a nice concept and avoids having an LP hose hanging out inside the trailer.

If your asking about my unit, It has 2 fans, 74 CFM and draws 0.25 A the pump draws 0.5 A, but most of the time I don't use fans or pump. I just let it work on gravity.
