the FR website says your 178 sleeping area is 60x74.  I have a 182g and use the dining table area with an air mattress in 58x74.  i sleep better in there than at home i think.  i have a "sound asleep dream series" from amazon.  You will need shore power or an inverter though to inflate/deflate.  I got an air mattress so i could deflate and put away.  if i had a dedicated bed, like yours, i would get the short queen size memory foam type and leave it there.

We bought the Zinus 8 inch memory foam short queen on Amazon.  It is super comfy.    And as far as the reviews go, we had no smell to report.  Some say when you unpack it has a smell that dissipates.
I would highly recommend.

Got a queen size memory foam mattress pad from Costco, cut some off the bottom (or top?), and placed it on top of the factory mattress.  Best bed in the house.

After 3 nights on our stock mattress i was convinced it was more comfortable sleeping in my sleeping bag in the pup tent on the ground.  Out it went.  Replaced it with the Eurotop mattress; that was spring 2011.  Just as comfy now as when we first purchased it and it gets used a fair amount.  We average 30 days/nights/year.

Amazon says the mattress is 60x80. As most Rpod bed platforms are 60x74, did you have to modify the mattress to fit? If so, how?

You need to search for a "short queen" mattress on Amazon.
Thanks

The original mattress in our 2013-178 was one step up from sleeping on rocks. Solved our problem by buying a cheap queen size foam from IKEA, cutting 6 in. of the end, adding a modified memory foam topper and putting it all in a full mattress cover (bedbugproof version from Amazon).  Unmodified the mattress cover is a bit baggie but it cannot be seen.  To cut foam clamp between 2x4's and use electric carving knife and 2x4 as guide.  It's as comfortable as home.

We are the second owners and the original owner put a custom mattress in and it is more comfortable than our bed in our house.

We had one custom made, because ours folds in half on the 176t, from https://www.mattressinsider.com/rv-mattress.html .

They have been great.  We have replaced all the mattresses with theirs.

There is a 6" Simmons short queen for sale in my local CL.  It is new and came out of a Jayco RV.

Does anyone know about the quality of the Simmons?  Simmons is an old name in the mattress world and it appears that this is an upgrade from one referred to as a "Denver" in information from Jayco.

I find my mattress quite satisfactory and comfortable. They call it a queen but it's really not. A little firm but with a quilt on top, just like I like it. I am looking for a top something for when I make the dining room bed for guests.

We picked up a memory foam topper at Kohls on our way to Florida after one night on the factory mattress and it worked good for us.  I think we got it on sale for about $40.00
