Picking up our 2017.5  179 on Thursday! Big smileBig smileBig smile
This is our first travel trailer, we have been tent campers until this week.

We are towing with a 2008 Honda Odyssy that generously seats 2.
Yes, all seats are removed or stowed.  (Hubby needs room for his bikes or kayak)
Already installed a brake controller and trans cooler.  We have another cooler for steering that has not been installed because the one currently on the vehicle might be better.

I'm sure these questions have been asked way too many times but here goes.
  1. Any recommendations on what to look out for upon delivery of new Pod?
  2. How are you locking Pod?  Boot? Hitch Lock?
  3. Anyone towing with a mini van?  And what equalizer hitch, anti sway are you using?
  4. Any pod/mod recommendations?
Thanks and Happy Camping from new Podder Patty!
BTW Happy Easter!

Welcome and Congratulations!

1. Take a video camera (phone video would likely be adequate) with you and video the walk-through. That way, you will have something to which you can refer later. Check drawers, doors, slide-out operation, and have them ensure all plumbing fittings are tight. Have them show you all controls and winterization valves for both the hot water heater and for the water pump. Since it is pretty much past the danger time for freezing, have them make sure the valves are in the summer position. Other than that, ask questions if you don't feel like the detail you have been given was sufficient.

2. I use a hitch lock. It came as part of a http://www.amazon.com/Master-Lock-3794DAT-Trailer-Coupler/dp/B000VSY4HG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1492367169&sr=8-1&keywords=Master+hitch+lock+kit - Master Lock kit that included locking pins for the hitch receiver and for the lever that locks the hitch onto the ball.

3. We were towing with an SUV, now a mid-sized pickup. We have been using the Equal-i-zer 4-point stabilization hitch since we got our 179. It has worked well. Others use the Fastway E2 or the Andersen No-Sway hitches.

4. See the link in my signature below.

Thanks Leo,
We can't wait to pick up our pod. The kitchen counter space, being able to use the U dinnette as a sofa and the storage was what did it for us.
Thank again

Thanks Stephen,
I spent quite a long time going through your mods.  Good job!  It looks like you are really handy.
Showed the Hubby too.  Thank goodness he has your abilities too.  We are going to have to put some of our metal and woodworking capabilities to work.
Some of your mods have already been addressed with the 17.5....almost like they are following your posts.
Thanks again.

Hi Patty and Scott

Don (hubby) and I picked up our new 179 on Saturday.  The walk through was done in the service garage with the lights on.  When we got our trailer home and parked it in our driveway with the sunlight shining in we noticed large scuff marks and gouges on the wall to the left of the soft and clear across the wall on the bed.  One set of the keys will not open the storage bay

Take a flash light with you.  Try the keys.

I also suggest you walk through the vehicle you are buying before you sign the papers.  This was not an option for us.  Seems counter-intuitive to pay for something you haven't seen.

Read the warranty.  Basically says Forest River only covers the shell for 12 months and nothing more.  Any other repair you (or dealer / repair person) has to go to the manufacturer

Hi and Thanks,
Haven't signed yet, but will do as StephenH suggest and do a video.  The new pods have a shower enclosure and I noticed it looked unsealed. I was going to call FR to ask if the bottoms seam should be caulked or if this was intentional.
Thanks Again...glad to be a part of the pod nation.
