We are getting ready to order our 179 and we are trying to decide if we want a microwave oven or the convection oven. What do you guys recommend?

Both. It's standard.

Yep, it's a combination oven. It comes with a metal baking rack that you need to remove if you're microwaving.

I'm not sure it's standard, but I would go with the convection microwave. You do have to be plugged in to shore power or have a generator to run the microwave and tv.

The convection/microwave oven is an option, no other option like a non convection microwave. BTW - it adds 51 lbs.

Mcarter,
My 2016 180 came with the microwave /convection combo and it came with the Hood River edition, Luxury interior package. I have used it to toast, make popcorn and cook a pizza (now that's luxury!) while camping and it works well. Even though I have only used it a handful of times, I think it's a good option and gives you a real (small) oven on the road when you have ac power or generator.
congrats on the new pod! I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

When we purchased our 177 the microwave/convection combo was standard equipment.  We opted to not get it as we normally boondock and really like to either cook over the fire or over a charcoal grill.  So, it is up to personal preference and as an above poster stated, maybe you want to use that 51 lbs. to a different use.

Our 179 came with the microwave/convection combination unit.  We haven't used it a lot but we have used it for various things.  It's a handy item to have.
