when my new Rpod 179 air conditioner cycles from compressor on to compressor off it smells like some old gym socks of mine.  Is there any remedy?
Thanks

Sounds and smells like the dirty sock syndrome. Mold and mildew on the evaporator coil is the usual cause. Is it a new pod?

Brand new. The a/c has only been on during walk-through and for about an hour at my home...
Also, every time I turn it on, there is what looks like tiny snow or plastic.  I don't know what to make of it. I thought it might be sawdust or fiberglass dust from the hole they drilled for the a/c prior to installing, so I thought I might blow it out with my air compressor.  I blew it out pretty good, I thought, however today I turned on the a/c again and got blasted with this light white dust like stuff....

Not sure at all. I bet you will get some of the other folks to chime in. Have you looked under the hood of the ac? Something is there that shouldn't be sounds like. Maybe some dealer support? Wish I knew.

Steve 911,

Have you physically removed the cover and looked at it? Two major issues might possibly be dirty air filter or a plugged drain line not letting the evaporator drain pan to drain. Look at coils to see if they are clean, check for dead varmints (really). Lastly, possibly could be sucking air from one of the tank vents. To me it sounds like the drains are not draining, which can be a plugged drain line, do you have mud daubers in your area? When I use my AC, I always check for water draining.

Thanks for the info.  We have daubers in our area but they are not active yet. I'm not familiar with this unit at all, but I understand the principle of its operation. One question, is the cover easy to remove?
I'm always concerned about breaking something if it's not obvious how to remove.
Thanks again

Nope, should be 4 retainers, two in front and two in rear on each side, lifts off forward. Should give you access to upper AC. I'm careful about walking on roof. I have a 8' piece of 3/4 plywood, probably 18" wide I lay across side walls when I get on the roof. Evaporator should be clean, no growths and no standing water, filter clean. One thing - as a reminder, these ACs do NOT use outside air, they recycle inside air. SO you're looking for anything that would make air going across evaporator smelly. Have a vacuum with you, they can have debris in them from build. One last tip, when you turn off AC, run it for a bit on fan only, that dries the unit and helps prevent evaporator mold and algae, spray some Fabreeze in it from inside.
