Hello, we got a 1.5old 2016 178.
Has anyone had any problem with leaks that show up after driving in heavy rain? We went to Florence and back over the weekend. Rained on the way there and we noticed a lot of moisture in back storage area. We dried it out and after a heavy rain last night there were no leaks. Got over the pass in rain and snow on the way back and the inner wall that separates back storage and the under the bed furnace area was wet staring from bottom up.

I have not, have a 178. Trying to envision problem. So, if it rains heavy no leaks. So kinda safe to say, the water is not coming from and exterior seal. If you drive in rain the pass through area is wet? Correct? Normally the tires are a primary source of water to the undercarriage. A vehicle on the highway doesn't have water at pressure coming from the bottom, there's nothing to drive it there. Just a kneejerk, I would start by looking at seal on bottom, closest to tires toward rear of the trailer. Then I would elevate the bed platform and look at any areas where the outside could allow water to the inside. Next with bed elevated I would take a low pressure hose and working from bottom, spray directly on the bottom of trailer to see if you have an issue with water coming into the pass through. If nothing happens, I would take same low pressure hose and work around outside of trailer. 60 MPH is not high pressure. So do use high pressure, you may cause more than you are trying to fix. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Let us know.

The 178 has pass-through storage in the rear. Check the seal around the hatches. I would suspect that is likely the source of the problem. It may be that the rubber seal is not tight enough so that the wind at highway speeds can force it open enough to let water in.

I experienced something this last trip that makes me suspect that might be the problem. We encountered fine snow being blown by wind gusting to 60 mph. It was enough to force the snow past the door seal. When I opened the door, the space between the door and the screen was partly filled with packed powder snow. If snow can get past a seal, water certainly can.

Stephen jogged my memory, when I first purchased our 178, I noticed during home inspection that the lock ends of each outside storage door were loose. They turned easily and the seals were not tight. I adjusted the locking latches to pull the doors tighter, have never had a leak problem. I may have inadvertently fixed by just making sure doors secured right.

Been having a problem with water intrusion in our 171.  It appears to be coming through the heater vent but only when we are driving in heavy rain.  It makes a big mess.  I suspect there's a seal missing or a misalignment of either or both the intake or exhaust vent tubes.  I'll let you know what I find.

We had similar issues with our 177 and did the mike carter remedy, also noted that when left unlocked the door doesn't sit as tight against the seal as when it is locked, so we also lock the doors.  Since then, over the past 6 plus years, no leaks.
