Subject: Electric brake wire broke

Hooked up the trailer yesterday, but my truck didn't respond that it was connected to the trailer. Oddly, the brake lights worked but the truck reported the electric brakes weren't working. I suspected my truck, but I asked my son to look around the trailer. He later said "there's a loose wire here next to the brake." Yep, the electric brake connection broke.  |

The plastic ties mine came with also broke I secured with heavy duty ties I bought at Lowes, replaced all the ties that have to do with brake wires. Can't say anything about right or wrong at factory, but can attest to the ties used were light duty. Good point. I would have gladly paid an extra $1 and had them use heavy duty ties when it was assembled. ------------- |

Thanks for bringing that to our attention! My 177 is less than 2 weeks away from its 6th birthday. I know I have brakes but since tomorrow is supposed to be nice, before our next bout of snow and cold I am going "under" to see how my cable ties appear, if they are there at all.

Same exact scenario here on a 2015 178. That is, the wire broke in the exact same spot. Discovered it during a routine under belly inspection. Not sure how long it was like that, was somewhat surprised to find in in that condition. ------------- Cliff & Raelynn Ranger 4.0/178 (1/2 ton 5,800lb tow capacity) |

When I got my new 2013 177 the truck seemed to pull to one side when I braked. When I put my hand on the camper wheels, I could feel that one brake drum was warm, one was cold. I had to take it back to the dealer to fix a broken wired that ran from one wheel to the other. This wiring sounds like a tender spot for r-pods. ------------- Larry and Debbie w/Rosie the mutt.
