The 18DS is the near clone of the 179. The floor insulation and enclosed underbelly are nice options. However, it is only available as part of a package that includes other features which make it sound like a "Hood River Edition." The other thing different is the storage. It looks like it might be full width in the front instead of partial as in the 179.

Interesting differences. I like the thought of the enclosed underbelly.

The only thing I wonder about is why fiberglass insulation for the roof instead of foam, possibly with the reflective foil they are using for the floor. Fiberglass can shift or get damp. Something that won't absorb moisture would seem to make more sense. Of course, the same goes for the R-Pod.

Because it won't bend around the curve.

The pods have foam insulation only in the flat part of the roof and fibre glass around the curve.

That's good to know. I thought it was all fiberglass. That the flat part is foam is good.

I really don't follow the overall RV industry that much. How is StarCraft's reputation overall? jpp

I have not idea how they compare. I would do a search for StarCraft reviews. I'm not in the market right now for one. I was looking at the Coachman Apex Nano as a possible replacement if our 179 had to be totaled from the accident. Since it will be repaired, I'm won't pursue a replacement, at least not for a few years.

Edit: I tried searching, but there are no user reviews for the Satellite available at this time. The StarCraft oener's forum reads like this one where there are posts with complaints on quality and others saying that they have not had problems. I would say that it is probably no better or worse than the R-Pods as all of the small trailers seem to have similar construction.

I had a 2006 starcraft popup till fall 2016. I had it 2 years and camped all around new england with it. It worked great in every way you could expect. I found the quality on it to be fairly good.

so i have been looking at these 2 brands

the forest river Rpod 2015 179  ($14,995)

http://rv.campingworld.com/rv/1403078

this is in great shape,  and used ones are very hard to find.  I have only seen 2 in the 1 year or more i have been looking.  Biggest negative is the bathroom inside the shower.

the starcraft satellite 17rb 2017   ($15,500)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gkkNGAMYis

I like the star craft because of the full bathroom, big storage areas, WIFI upgrade, and not to mention the 2 year warranty. Also it is brand new

these are the 2 TT i am looking at very hard.  I just dont want to make a bad choice, and regret my purchase.  I really would love some feedback on either of these 2 trailers.  I want to purchase this week if possible.  To me, both seem to be the same exact trailer, except the starcraft is brand new and has a full shower.  why is it so cheap new? not built as well? fall apart quicker than the rpod?  i would be buying a extended warranty with both anyway.  i am pulling with a 2007 titan Nissan so that is no problem either way. is there something i am missing?

input would be awesome thank you!

Well.. you are on an FR R-Pod forum. Needless to say, no one here has owned both, since the Starcraft came out about a month ago. And it's a forum dedicated to the R-Pod. Since the Starcraft is a copy, they can sell cheaper due to lower, among other things, marketing costs. They are stepping into a market already established by FR.You will have to decide on your own if one is better then the other, esp. construction wise, since you are one of the first people making the comparison for purchase.
