How important is it to purchase and install a cover for the slide-out on my 2016 179? Has anyone had water leakage problems by not having a cover? Thanks for your help.

We do not use a cover, never have for either of our rpods. I keep the snow brushed off of it. Never have had any leaks or problems

We have never used a cover for our 2011   177 slide.  Have had snow, sleet, rain, all with lots of wind and blowing leaves to boot; never have had a leak.  Our 177 gets used about 30 days/year.

We installed a slideout cover made by Carefree of Colorado on our 179 and have been very happy with it. I don't remember the length, but the Carefree of Colorado website has instructions on determining the length.

I have a cover for the 178. Bought it from Pahaque. It keeps debris off the top of the slide out. I have never had a leak in many different weather conditions with it or without it. I don't believe it would stop a leak, the purpose is to keep debris off the slide out top.

We also have a 178.  A 2017, not even a month old.  Gonna take it out on first trip soon.  Getting to know it at home now.
Purchased the Pahaque slideout cover.  How do you insert the keder of the cover into the "keder rail" ?  Is the keder rail the tube itself or is it the ushaped scoop above the tube?  The "rubber scuppers" at the end of the rails are preventing me from inserting the "cover keder cord" into the tube.  I cannot seem to bend it enough to get it into the tube.
I watched their u-tube video which made it look very easy, however there was not a good enough close-up in the video to see the insertion into the "tube".
Any suggestions?
Thanks much, Mary

Ira   we are starting our 6th year with our 177. We don't have a slide topper. Even if you get a topper you should still get out a 3 step step ladder just to make sure that birds etc. haven't started making a nest under the topper because it provides protection from the elements.. And if you have to get up there any way to check that out.... take a broom with you, clear off the top of the slide before you head home and save your self $$$$'s.... So far we've never had any leaks or trouble with our slide...

mamacbear,

Answered your PM, basically I trimmed the keder in cover to same length as keder on Pod, and trimmed along rail seams so as to not remove any cover material. Use silicone grease and cover will attach without putting stress on scuppers. BLUF is I would not purchase another Pahaque slide out cover. Didn't fit as advertised.
