Name:       Matanzas State Forest
Cost  :       $5.00 per night (drop box)
Hookups:   None
Setting:     Natural Forest
Amenities: Metal fire ring, picnic table, portable out house & sometime fire wood provided free.

Web Site: http:///www.fl-dof.com/state_forests/matanzas.html - http:///www.fl-dof.com/state_forests/matanzas.html   This web site shows no camping.  I contacted the web master about this.  There is a number at the bottom of the page.  Call that number and request a permit to use Matanzas State Park.  The permit is free.  They will give you a permit number and the code number to the gate to the park.  Once you go through the gate (please close and lock) on your left is a sign in station.  The cash drop box is located at the camping area.

Other than site seeing there is nothing to do in this state forest.  If there has been a lot of rain you may have a problem getting through the roads.  This land is about sea level.  It's flat and tends to be wet.  The roads are being improved.

There isn't much room to move around so this campground should be for tents and very small campers only!

If you want to go here please let me know so I can give you any help if needed.  Here are a few pictures from there: http://www.flickr.com/photos/terryandkay/sets/72157603359232491/ - http://www.flickr.com/photos/terryandkay/sets/72157603359232491/

The red spot is where the camping sites are.  Use Eagles Nest Road.

Really cool pictures, looks like the type of camping I enjoy where the wildlife out number the campers.
There is a place in central Fl. you would enjoy called Avon Park Air force  Range. Located off of Hwy 27. web site    avonparkafr.net
