My Pod is the #172 with large bunks in the front and dinette in the back. There are no windows at the bunk end of the pod. I want to install opening windows there (on the sides only not on the front body curve) for light and ventilation. However I'm reluctant to do it myself. If they leaked I'd have no one to complain to.

I was at my local Camping World facility yesterday and they said they "probably" could do it. Has anybody had them do body repairs/new work such as this and if so was it done to your satisfaction? One of the body shop men lives near me and was kind enough to offer to look at the trailer at my home so I didnt have to take it to them for inspection which I felt was pretty nice.

There are other RV shops in my area that could do it also so I do have other options.

M-Man,
In my opinion, anything is possible, But some things just don't make sense.  I Think for me it comes down to, do i have to cut an aluminium framing stud?  I wouldn't Some others would.

Go get a REAL GOOD stud finder, Mine sees all studs, metal or wood and electrical wires, and see where the aluminium studs are. If there is no stud where you want a window, this is a relitivly simple project.  Pretty much just cut the hole and put in a window.

Here's to hoping! John

We have a couple owners who have done small portholes that open, It's not a big deal.. but it is cutting some holes in your pod..

I put a window in my door. Not impossible, just need basic skills and be patient. In old days I used to put windows in vans and sunroofs in cars. Make a pattern, measure multiple times.

Thanks to all who have replied. I agree, if there are no studs or wires in the way, it's just a matter of cutting the holes, adding blocking, and sealing them good.   I live in the northern Puget Sound area of Wash. St. so the pod will get rained on a lot!   The stud finder I have won't locate metal studs; if not too expensive I may get one if I wind up doing this myself.   Last winter I took some pictures of the pod when it was below freezing. The metal framing shows up quite well in them to get at least an approximate idea where they are.

Marwayne, can tell me where you got the portholes? Do they open? I've found 14" x 16" and 21" x 14" that should fit but I'd like to see what other sizes are available.

No they do not open, my DW does not like a draft over her head while sleeping. I made my own windows. I put the widows on the bathroom side because I put cabinets at the foot ends, the feet go under the cabinets.

I'm still forever impressed with your amazing rear extension on the back, and yet it all looks good in proportion with the trailer. The port holes add just the right amount of light while preserving privacy. Very cool.
