We have a 2-year-old 182G that has developed a vexing problem. With a full fresh water tank and water pump switched on, we now only get a trickle out of the kitchen sink faucet. Flushing the toilet triggers the pump immediately and can thereby get more water flowing at the faucet too. I think the problem is simply that opening the faucet doesn't trigger the pump. Any ideas for a fix?

i think there are two screens; one down by the pump and the screen on the faucet head.  maybe check those.  hogone

The screen on the sink faucet is very restrictive.  It gets plugged up pretty easily.  Bet that's it.

provided that you hear the pump turn on when you try to get water.

Thanks for the responses! I'll check the screens, but since the faucet flow increases to normal when the toilet gets flushed, it seems more like a pump signal issue. Any ideas what causes the pump to turn on when the faucet is opened, and why that might not function?

Something seems strange and amiss here. The pump is controlled by a pressure switch right at the pump. It senses pressure in the cold water pipe at the pump output and turns on the pump when it drops. The same switch turns off the pump when it reaches a set higher pressure. Use of water anywhere will turn the pump on if the pump is supplied with 12 VDC. There are no location dependent pump signalling devices. If you turn on the kitchen faucet the pump should come on eventually. If the faucet is severely clogged it may take some time to drain the system below the lower trip point. However, causing the pump to cycle by flushing the toilet, thus  building up pressure, will have only a minor effect on flow. My bet is on a clogged screen in the faucet.

Are you saying the water flow at the kitchen faucet comes up to normal when you flush the toilet?  That's a whole different puzzle.  If you're saying the water flow is normal at the toilet that goes back to a clogged screen at kitchen sink.

Thanks, Charlie, for the explanation! Tars, the water flow at the kitchen faucet comes up to normal when you flush the toilet, although not immediately: after the pump runs for less than a minute.

Still looks like Charlie is spot on, plugged screen at the faucet.
