Hi all,
I am interested in a 2017 Rpod 180.  My question is, does anyone know if the frame above the slide out will support the installation of a slide out topper?   I have the new brochure but it doesn't offer a topper so I'm wondering about it.
All replies are greatly appreciated.
Steve

It should. Some people use the PahaQue topper, which is a manual unit. I made one (you can see it in my mods). An automatic one would be nice, but my manual one was much less expensive.

We installed an automatic slide topper from Carefree of Colorado. We've been very happy with it.

Click on Configure Product and then on the "Learn More..." link in the Awning Length section to figure out what length you need.

Steve,
I put a Carefree slide topper on last weekend. Bought it from our local RV dealer, Someone ordered it and never picked it up, Goes for about $260 if you order one. He gave it to me for cost to get rid of it. Took about an hour to put on, looks way harder than it is, came with good instructions. I used the stock rail that came on the pod.

Thanks John for your reply.  Looks great.  I was wondering about attaching a slide topper to the pod. Looks like a slick installation using the existing rail.
Thank for posting the pics as well.
Happy Thanksgiving
Steve

The topper for our 179 was a lot more difficult to install, mainly because of the length of the slideout. It required two people. Spreading the rail opening on the end we were feeding the fabric into really helped, but we still had to work around the little rain spout on the end of the rail. It was well worth the effort though.

What is the purpose of a slide out topper?  Just wondering because we've switched our 1st choice R-Pod to one with a slide-out.  Wondering if this is something we will want to invest in.

The slide topper is a very good and important thing that you will find standard on most high end RVs. It's primary purpose is to keep falling debris off the slide including leaves, acorns, branches, snow, ice, and rain. This allows you to close the slide without climbing up and clearing it with a broom. With the topper everything just rolls off as you close the slide. If you don't clear the slide roof you can damage the slide and/or its seals or prevent it from closing properly. A secondary benefit is some shade provided for a cooler interior.

I'm thinking it will keep me from climbing up on something to sweep leaves, and debris that might fall onto the top of the slide out while it's out. I feel it's probably good to not have stuff on there when moving the slide back in..just my $.02

just an extra post - we took ours out last week - it snowed quite a bit one night and don't have cover. We slid in the slideout without thinking about the snow. When it melted that afternoon, water dripped everywhere inside the trailer
