When you first put on a NEW water filter run the water on the ground for a few minutes. Then hook it up to your camper. There is usually a lot of very fine black charcoal dust that will be washed out. I have seen black water run out for a few seconds. It wouldn't hurt you any but why put that in your system.

When you disconnect your water line drain all water out of the hose. Let the water drain out of your filter also. Once that is done hook BOTH ends of your hose to the filter ends. That way there won't be any water leaking out and into your camper. It also keeps your hose and filter clean.

If you can do it any way, keep your hose and filters out of the direct sun light. Algae can form in the filter and hose. It wouldn't hurt you in any way but the thought of it being in there is gross!
