Went camping for the first time in over 4 years.  It was quite the compromise with my husband involving the rental of a camera, a trip to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, a tent, and a stop.

With my/our renewed interest in owning some kind of travel trailer and having to wait a few years to actually buy one, I finally wanted to go camping (tent) sooner than later.   We went for two nights/three days.

We (I) had wanted to stop at an RV Show that would more or less be on our way to our campground.   Getting closer to the event, when I checked who was going to be there and what they'd be bringing, I discovered that the dealers who sell R-Pods were not slated to bring R-Pods.  I was majorly bummed because before we get further into dreaming/planning/dreaming I wanted to actually tour an R-pod and (more importantly, I thought) have my husband go inside one (he is 6'2" and I'm 5'1").

After my disappointment I asked him about stopping at the RV dealer (where we are likely to purchase) and then found another one closer to where we were actually camping.  There was (I swear!) a whole conversation, including the "I didn't think you wanted to stop at an actual dealer since we aren't ready to buy?" and "Yes, but that was when I thought we'd be able to tour one at the RV show."

As we are driving down, my husband (I swear he not only has selective hearing but also selective memory) was very surprised that our first stop would be the RV dealer about 30 minutes north of our campground.   He claims to have no recollection of the conversation.

We stopped (I found out he is less excited than I am about this whole thing because it is not all new to him, he used to camp with his siblings and grandparents in the summer in a travel trailer) at the dealer and all the R-pods and RVs, etc. were open.   No sales pressure, just walk in and look around.   So the third one we went into was the 171 we (I) had picked out.   It is small.  That is saying something coming from someone who is on the petite side, herself.   Our fourth r-pod was the 178.   Oh wow.  I liked that one.   My husband actually made a positive comment on it himself.   I should add, that while I am smaller, I am also more prone to feeling claustrophobic -- when we went house shopping 4 years ago we quickly figured out than any house with a low ceiling wasn't going to work for me.   Turns out that the difference in the little slide out is huge.  I felt my how body go from being tense in the 171 to completely relaxing in the 178.  What I really noticed was that only one side of the bed is blocked in the 178.  In the 171 both sides are blocked.  That seemed to be the focus of my anxiety.

So, along with getting to go camping and getting to tour several R-pods, we also changed what we wanted from a 171 to a 178.   The pricing difference at the dealer is $1,000.   My husband seemed unconcerned about the slide out (remember he has done this before and I have not).

We also discovered that the shower is too short for someone who is 6'2".  I'm not surprised and he seemed unfazed that he'd have to sit on the toilet to shower.

Whew!   That was exciting.  Plus, I got to go camping!  Big smile

I'm glad you enjoyed the camping trip and touring the R-Pods. We chose the 179 ourselves. It has been a good fit for us. The headroom inside (with the exception of the bathroom) is excellent. Even the bathroom is tall enough that I have no problem standing (5'10"). However, the older we get, the more the seated shower will be helpful.

Hopefully, your husband will warm up to the idea as it gets closer to the time for you to purchase one. I have many fond memories of camping with my parents and siblings. The trailer my parents had was larger, but our R-Pod has the benefit of several decades of improvements.
