If you think your axle is over rated for your trailer ( trailer is too heavy for its axle) please reply to this post. I think this issue needs to be addressed by Forest River.

What the axle is rated in lbs. , then how much the trailer weighs. Is there enough of a difference to be safe? My Lippert axle is rated at 3550 lbs, my trailer weighs 2970 from the factory but 3450 with very little of my stuff in it. If I have any fresh, black or grey water and food etc. the trailer will weigh more than the axle is rated. There is an axle rated at 4400lbs. This should have been the one FR used. But, it is more expensive so they used the 3550 Lippert.

Doesn't the 179 have a Dexter Torflex axle?

The 179 has an unloaded weight of 2,766 lbs and a GVWR of 3785 lbs. I assume 285 lbs is on the tongue and the axle is rated at 3,500 lbs? If so, that's about 1,000 lbs of carrying capacity.

I love the way the trailer tows due to the axle.

The 2014 179 has a Leppert axle. The new ones have the Dexter.
