My wife and I are officially done with TENT CAMPING forever! We picked up our 2017 RPOD 179 yesterday and I have a few questions for the seasons RPOD owners.

1. I have had bad luck with the 3M strips that are supposed to come off the walls when I want them to with no damage to the walls...does anybody else have any suggestions on what to use to attach things to the walls in the RPODS?

2. Air Conditioner: When my RPOD is at home I have the power going to my 110 garage outlet with the converter plug that comes with the RPOD, when I have  AC connected, is it safe to use the AC using 110 from my garage or do I have to have a 30amp service installed in my garage?

3. RPOD outside protection: The RV dealer tried to sell me a Teflon wax for lotsa money to have applied to the outside of my RPOD to protect the finish. What do you seasoned RPODDERS use to keep your outside from fading and becoming oxidized and stickers peeling off? Is there a certain soap you use to clean your RPOD with?

4. Replacement queen size mattresses for the RPOD: I am a bigger guy and need a little more support. The factory mattress isnt that comfortable. What is a good quality mattress we can replace the original with?

5. Refridgerator: While traveling to our camping destination, should we use the propane or battery power to keep it cold?

6. Pets: We have one dog(Boxer), she has oily skin. I have the lighter colored cushions in the dinette area, what tips/advice have RPODDERS with pets have about keeping those cushions clean?

We are very excited about our first trip next week to Michigans Upper Penninsula (Van Riper State Park). We will have about an 8 hour drive up there. My TV is a 2007 Chrysler Pacifica Touring Edition (4.0 Liter V-6)...does anybody know how these these cars perform pulling the RPODS?

We really appreciate any/all advice-tips-tricks, so please let us know.

Have a great summmer all!

Congratulations and welcome to the group! We don't have any information for you since my wife and I just picked up our 2017 179 yesterday! We'll be watching for the answers to your questions...

Nice pick on the 179.  Cannot answer #1 since we haven't added stuff to our walls.
# 2 our 2011 model was special ordered w/o A/C so no answer there either.
# 3 We have used Macguiar's Ultimate Liquid Wax, leaves the finish feeling like a baby's butt.  If we get tree sap and other nasty stuff on the roof, which happens a lot when camping, will use clay bar to clean off the gunk, and then the Macguiar's after to protect the finish.  For decals we use Protect All 1/x per year, on year #6 with our pod, decals still look great (don't use the clay bar on your decals, may be rather harsh on them).
#4 This was my first mod done on our 177 back in 2011.  After 3 nights camping on that  "so called" mattress, I found myself sleeping in a hole/depression next to my DW, now I don't mind cuddling but we found ourselves unable to move apart, the mattress was garbage.  Ordered a "mattress in a roll" from Camping World.  A bit pricey but just as comfy as our pillow-top mattress at home.  Nearly 5 years old, been used a lot, and feels just as comfortable as when we first purchased it.
#5  Propane, propane, propane.
#6 Only have cats, when we go on vacation, they take care of themselves, we just leave a big bowl of water out for them, they catch their own food, as they are outdoors all the time.

Am sure you will get many different responses, not saying our's are the only correct ones, but they have worked well for us since we picked up our 177 back in March of 2011 in the town of Escanaba, up in the U.P.

Our TV has a 3.5L V-6 with 290 HP, tows well for us.

You will probably go by our place on your way to the U.P. if you take US-31, we are about 30 miles north of Traverse City in a small town called Kewadin, by Torch Lake.  We do a fair amount of camping in the U.P., would be neat to hook up.

Hello and welcome,
The dealer ship will tell you do not use 110 to run your air even though a lot of people do they say it will harm the unit.
Run the fridge on electric only when traveling and hooked to the tow vehicle or it will drain your battery in two hours,if you stop and get gas you won't have to shut the fridge off if you are on propane.
Towed my R179 all around the U.P. last year with my 2013 pilot 3.5 V6 and had no problems, rated for 4500 lbs.
   Hope this helps, happy camping.

About the mattress, I found a 8 inch memory foam short queen for around 240 dollars there are other options but I was concerned about weight and height. Love it.on Amazon.com.

  1. The A/C will ONLY run on 110 (120V). No choice.
  2. Most RVs, including all with larger refers, travel using propane. No problems.
  3. Ditto on Pilots, as long as they are 4WD rated at 4500#.

You'll love your 179.  This mattress is awesome (10inch spring version) and I like it better than any mattress I've ever owned.  I have some lower back issues.  This mattress is firm yet soft and comfortable, not hot like some of the memory foam versions out there.

Welcome.  We used 3M hooks in our pod w/o a problem, and have them in our current camper.  A/C, you can run it from a 120 volt outlet (15 or 20 amp) at home just make sure nothing else is on the circuit.  Fridge, as others have said, run it on propane.  Pretend the 12 volt option doesn't exist.  Do use the 120 volt mode to pre-cool it at home overnight before a trip.
