Well I guess I'll just introduce myself. Big smile

My wife and I live here in the Midwest and have been avid campers since we met about 10 years ago. I am 15 years her senior (45 to her 30) and my back and old tired bones just cant do the air mattress and stuffy hot and humid nights in a tent anymore. I've been lurking on the tiny travel trailer and teardrop site thinking I might build a trailer, I'm handy like that, but we took a road trip to Colorado this past weekend and saw at least 10 R-Pods on the road. I'd shown them to her before but seeing them in "action" really pumped up her interest. So we have been looking, discussing, watching YouTube reviews and walk throughs and I'm pretty sure we've decided to go look at a 2016 179. There is a dealer up in St.Joe that has some on clearance (seems to be a good price) so we're heading up Saturday morning.

Wondering, are there any podders in and around the KC area that can give advice on dealer experience, pricing here locally and anything I should look for (watch out for) when picking out a pod?

I've been reading and looking around here for a couple days and I really love the community, some great mods on display and I really appreciate a crowd that's passionate about their hobbies, I belong to several discussion boards, Pontiac, GTO, Camping, TTNT, Android, etc. and it really seams like a great group here.

Welcome. I just bought my 2017 179 a little over a month ago. I have had it out once for four days and have another trip planned next week. Simply put, I love it. Like you we were tent campers and wanted climate control. I had my 179 out in 90+ degrees and it performed remarkably. I really like the 179 and have gone back several times to look at other models to make sure I made the right decision...I did. Happy hunting, we are real happy with ours.

Thanks for the welcome.

We were initially torn between the bigger kitchen in the 179 or the full bath in the 180. The storage difference as well as the fact we'll be camping mostly in campgrounds (that normally have bath houses) was the kicker for us. My wife loves the kitchen area in the 179 (she's a great cook) and really, even back when I was a kid camping with my grandparents in the big hitchhiker 5th wheel this is easily the most functional kitchen space I've ever seen in a camper. Lots of counter space, lots of storage. And sure it will be great to have the potty for those middle of the night emergencies, and heck we might shower in it once and a while.  Embarrassed

The kitchen area, storage and open dining area were what sold us on our 179. We previously had a 171 which was more compact without the slide out.

We picked up our 2016 179 in December. I have made a number of modifications which are detailed in my mods. We have made one short, local trip and we are on our forth long trip with it now. We are really enjoying it. I hope you will enjoy your 179 as much as we are enjoying ours. The bigger kitchen was what sold us on the 179 also.

The kitchen and gobs of easily accessible storage within is also what sold me on my 2026 179.

Very warm welcome is much appreciated.

So I saw on another thread about the Jayco Hummingbird. I looked it up and though I really like the powered awning and the off road "baja package" I am still leaning towards the Pod. I did some research on Jayco in general and they seem to have some real quality issues. I mean like tons of bad reviews and "strongly worded" warnings. Plus it's a 2017 and several thousand higher than the 2016 Pod we are going to look at tomorrow. I have read some of the QC issues here on the pods but nothing like what I found in 10 minutes of searching for Jayco reviews.

Here's our tow vehicle ...

They only have 4 in stock, only one 179 (a 2016) and it's listed for 2 g's over the one I am going to look out tomorrow, but thanks for the heads up.

Welcome.  You may find you shower in the pod more often, I feel it is easier and quicker to use the shower that is right there.

Well bad news, the 179 we were going to look at got sold (at 13k fully loaded I am not surprised) but we still have yet to see a 179 in person. Unhappy
We did go look at the hummingbird 17rk to try to get a feel for size and floor room and what not.
So now we are just waiting for the 17 to come in I guess.
