Subject: Electric Tongue Jack recommendations?

| After a few trips in the heat I have decided it is time for an electric tongue jack. I get hot too quickly doing labor, so it is almost a necessity for me (to keep my brain from cooking!). So I am looking for recommendations, any and all. I live in the New England, so I need something relatively weatherproof. I am a believer in "you get what you pay for", so I would rather spend a little more than replace something again 2 years later. |

I have not had the chance to use it on the road, but in my driveway, it works very well. It seems to be well built, have sufficient power, and is sufficiently fast. The reviews were pretty good. It comes with a cover. Since I use a 1/2" 18v drill to run my stabilizer jacks up and down, I took the crank off the tongue jack, put a nut on it, and use my drill to raise & lower it. Works great. TT ------------- 2010 176 FJ Cruiser |

It is easy. Jack up the pod sufficiently to get a jackstand under the front (making sure wheels are chocked, of course). Retract the jack and remove foot if installed. Remove three bolts. Remove jack. Insert new jack. Place flat washer and star washer on bolts (reuse if they are in good shape or get new bolts (minimum grade 5) if they are not) so that the star washer will be nearest the frame. This ensures a good ground. Tighten per specs. A torque wrench is handy for this. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery (or turn your battery cut-off switch off). Decide where you want to mount the breaker. Route the wire to this point and splice using a butt connector. Put a ring terminal on the other leg and attach to the positive terminal of the battery. Use wire ties to secure your wire. Reattach the negative terminal (or turn your battery cut-off switch back on) and you are done. It really is simple, and does not take much time.
