We are travelling from Oregon to Vermont in our 179 and have run into a couple of glitches- starting with the water filter. Page 52 of the so-called Owners Manual seems to imply that an on board water filtration system- the WaterPur treatment system - has replaceable filters. Problem is we have no idea where such a filter is located, and whoever dewinterized this previously owned unit was overzealous with the treatment of the plumbing. The water - irrespectivr of source, city our holding tsnk - is cloudy and bad tasting. We have flushed the lines several times including the holding tank itself. Any advice from other owners?

The "One Size Fits All" manual is probably refering to larger, more expensive models of the Forest River product line. There is no water filtration system in the Pods. However, many Pod owners do use an in-line water filter. My setup is pressure regulator connected to the campsite spigot, then in-line filter, then white water hose.

Even with the filter, we only use the campground water for showers, washing dishes & flushing. We bring our own drinking water from home. Even our furbaby gets water from home.

The standard annual dewinterizing routine, after getting all of the pink stuff out of the system and setting the WH valves to summer, usually includes flushing the holding tank, WH, and lines by filling the holding tank and adding about 2 cups of Clorox bleach to the tank about half way through filling. Run all of the faucets, sink, bathroom, outdoor shower if you have one, until you can smell the bleach. I top my tank off again at this point and let it sit at least 4 hours to overnight. Then drain the tank, refill with fresh water, flush all of the faucets again until you can't smell the bleach, drain the tank again and refill it.

Some folks do this more than once a year....

When winterizing try using compressed air, total time to do this is maybe 2 minutes from hooking up the air chuck to the 3 way valve under the sink to unhooking when you are finished. I use about 1 pint of antifreeze to put in both my sink traps. No more nasty antifreeze taste come springtime. We had to do a few flushes using white vinegar to rid the tank, lines of the terrible after taste of the bleach, and or antifreeze. Have used compressed air to winterize for the past 4 years with no problems.

Is there a Hot Water "bypass" on the 179 to bypass the HW heater when sanitizing the system?

The bypass valve on the 179 is beside the water heater which is located under the bed. If you crawl into the interior storage area beneath the bed there will be an access panel just to the right of the furnace grille. Many of us made this area more accessible by removing the screws on one piece of the plywood that supports the mattress & installed a long piano hinge. Then it can be easily lifted to access the water heater/ furnace area. No longer have to get on your belly with a flash light!!

Thanks, all, for the valuable advice. Connectivity has been spotty along the route so that's the reason for my slow acknowledgement. The trip has been great but very hot! Hope to post more details in a separate forum soon - WiFi permitting.
