Can the length of the antenna wings on the 179 be adjusted?

No, are you having a problem getting reception?

The reason that I want to shorten the rear facing section is to be able to install A Fantastic ultra breeze cover. There appears to be a screw holding that section in place--if it is possible, I would remove that
section---I rarely watch broadcast TV--usually stream with computer.

Many owners have installed the same cover. This is the first time I have heard of the antenna having to be modified to accept it.

It seems that not all the 179s have the antenna in the same spot. I haven't tried to install a cover, but the antenna on mine is right behind the Fantastic Fan vent, so I could imagine it being a problem. I'd love to replace it with a Jack King antenna, but I'd have to relocate it because the antenna is immediately above the dead space behind the stereo and TV, so I wouldn't be able to operate the directional control.
