The water heater works fine on AC, but it will not light on LP. I read on this great forum that when on propane only the inside switch is on, on AC both inside and outside are on. Is that correct? I hear it trying to light, but no go! Is there a gas shut off to water heater?

Gas is turned on?  Burner on stove lights? No wasp nests or spider webs around H2O burner?

Thanks! Yes, the gas is on, the stove works, no webs or nests.....I'm puzzled? I hear the click but no flame!

Air in the line? It might take a few attempts before residual air is purged and the WH lights. The same thing goes for the refrigerator. This is the case even if the stove lights as they are different line branches.

If it hasn't been run on gas in a while, it may take a few tries to light. If it's already hot because it's on elec. it won't light either.

First of all, be sure that the anode is screwed into the water heater.

Second, be sure that the stove will actually light (it sounds like you have).

Third, be sure that the breaker that goes to the water heater is on (it sounds like it must be if you hear it clicking).

Fourth, leave the water heater switch turned on for several minutes.  It probably took mine a good three minutes left on to light for the first time after we pulled it from storage and winterization.

I had the same problem and found that the igniter cable had come disconnected which can be accessed by removed a panel in the storage compartment right of the water heater (at least on my 178). I messed with this water heater for hours trying all of the tips and tricks mentioned in the forums and could not get it to work. See if you have this secret access panel!
