Model 179. A roll of paper towels got behind the flimsy kick board, and pulled it loose while putting the slide out. Has any one figured out a better way to attach it than the 3 screws in chip board just waiting to get pulled out??

See my mods. I used three http://www.lowes.com/pd/TOGGLER-5-Pack-Plastic-Toggle-1-8-in-x-1-4-in-Hollow-Door-Anchors-with-8-x-1-1-4-in-Screws/3183711 - toggler anchors . These are the white plastic things that look like wings. I put these into three holes in the aluminum channel and expanded them. I used http://www.lowes.com/pd/The-Hillman-Group-1-4-in-x-1-4-in-Black-Plastic-End-Cap/3012661 - plastic washers and caps. The end result is that it looks better and is less likely to be knocked out.
I have read also of people using hinges. If by some chance it does get knocked out again, I will go with hinges so it can swing if something gets caught. If you search the forum, you will likely find a post with information about using hinges.

I added hinges, but they won't help that situation, only when something hits the panel with the slide in. I've been thinking about the possibility of stacking hinges so that the panel can swing both directions but haven't sat down to work out the geometry.

I had thought about that too, but couldn't quite figure it out either. That's why I went with the anchors in the frame.

I used hinges and for just the reason you mentioned. They were easy to install and three 2" hinges support a fairly heavy chunk of particle board pretty well. There are some goodies down in the floor, so if you have small ones, you would have to be sure to keep them away.
We don't have that worry, but I still gave some thought to installing a barrel bolt or magnetic catch, just in case someone was fooling around where they shouldn't be. Didn't spot a good place for that anyway, and I don't want to create an additional problem when we went to close the slide out....

The reason I would want two-way hinges is for the occasions where I forget to move something out of the way when closing the slide-out. One way hinges set for opening the slide-out would be a bad thing in that situation.
