just got back from 1st trip of the season. Pueblo colorado KOA. but found i needed better clothing storage so a shelf over bed was needed. I used a 6'by16" white wire shelf from lowes and 5 3x3" metal brackets. removed the window valance and slid the brackets behind the the shade frame and the used the included screws to screw brackets into the wall replaced valance then adjusted 1 bracket to accomadate supporting the center of the back of the rack up on the front wall. not much meat behind the board so i used a expanding wall molly and attached the bracket to wall. i used zipties to keep the shelf locked in for now.  very stable and should take the weight of some clothes and magazines..hope this helps anybody. all for lessthan 25$..ordering a door window next week and a small incandescant swing arm light is on its way to make readingeasier than the leds..

Looks nice! We did something very similar in our 178. We wanted it to be removable and found that the window valance is very sturdy. We reinforced the back of the shelf with a 1x2 board and attached it with the standard shelving mounting brackets. We put the rubber caps on the ends to keep from damaging the walls. We take it down as part of our tear-down at the end of a trip. I have pictures but can't figure out how to add it to this post. Can anyone help me with that?

Loving our new rpod!!

do you travel with stuff on the shelf?

I thought about using wire shelving, but went with the wooden shelf instead (see my mods). I use wire baskets purchased when they were on sale at Aldi. I use short bungee cords to hold them on the shelf. With this, things ride on the shelf without risk of falling off. On the 179, the shelf is at the hitch end, so there is not as much bouncing as there would have been if the bed had been at the aft end.

Simple, light weight, and functional.  Thanks for sharing that one.
Well done!

Did exact same mod to my 178, 6'X16" shelf from Lowes and 3" brackets.  Good place to store clothing articles.

How did you remove and reinstall your valance? One of my valances came down & all I see are 2 screws on the back that don't appear to be attached to anything?? There are 2 small holes in the wall but the screws are inside the fabric.
Thanks!

I didn't remove the valence. The main reason is that I did not see how it was attached. I rested my end brackets on top of the valence and used command strips to hold it in place. So far, it has worked well. As for your problem, is there any way to move the fabric to get to the screw heads so you can reattach it? Hopefully, someone else here has the answer.
