Great site, but I can't name this part so it is hard to search for previous fixes and mods.

I just got a 2014, 178 Rpod.  Love it.  But, the first thing I gotta change are the leather like strips/bracket that hold the dinette cushions in place.

Since I can't name it, I will place this pic from the brochure, with the part circled:

They are held on with weak screws and my kids are making fast work of them.  If you sit with your legs over these (not under the table) they easily push downward and will likely rip out soon.  I fear they will come off soon and then the cushions will fly everywhere during travel.

You folks know of any fashionable ways of reinforcing or replacing these things?

I don't know if they have been changed but in 2009 they were material covered over cardboard. I only had one side to fix with the 171 and I replaced the entire side with plywood with a opening in the side for shoes. There may be a picture somewhere way back perhaps on the other forum.

I just took mine off. They really don't seem to serve much of a purpose. My cushions don't slide off or anything. I put the upholstery covered screws back in the holes to make it look better, but you really don't notice it.

Like GLB, I removed ours and never had a problem with the cushions shifting.  I hated how it dug into my legs when I sat on the edge of the bench, and it started removing itself.

Thanks this was helpful.

I think I might just take off the trim first as some have suggested, and then look into the shoebox trick. Shoe space seems to be an issue already. My kids' shoes are all over the place.

Thanks for the help!
