1. Between the heater on the right and the 3 drawers on the left there is a low shallow 'space' that's pretty unusable. Remove it's flimsy back panel, trim it to fit the pipes in back and glue/nail/screw (whatever you like) it back in place and you get a space for a saltine box or 2, a big oatmeal carton and several other smaller cracker boxes.

2. However, there remains 2 hoses surrounded by gobs of foam sealant. I trimmed the sealant to leave protection for these hoses from the adjacent cracker boxes and in removing the foam, left a small hole in the foam through which light comes from below. So, I want to plug this hole.

?Can I use any 'big box' store foam sealant or is there one type that is better for this job??

The 2 that I have used are the Window and Door Insulating Foam it’s a low-pressure flexible foam, soft and pliable, it’s also easy to remove if you need to access the foamed area. The other is Gaps and Cracks Insulating Foam which cures as a cream color. It’s a rigid insulating foam sealant that fills small gaps up to 1 in. It’s also hard to remove if you need to access the area. Both are form Great Stuff.
