Morning all. I am new to RVs and we just purchased a used 178. The original owner just had it gone through and de-winterized. That's great, but I drug it home, and it looks like it's going to be hovering near 32F here for a low two nights this week (right now forecast is 32F Fri night, 33F Sat night). I would really like to avoid re-winterizing just to turn around and de-winterize again. I'm hoping these will be the last real cold nights and after that we're out of the woods. When he was showing me everything, he opened the gray water drain and water came out, and you can see water in the toilet, so there is water in the system, but the gauges all show empty. Anyways, I was thinking about plugging it in and turning the heat on say 65 or 70 overnight, would that make sure nothing freezes? I could make sure everything is fully drained. I have a little air compressor too so I could try to blow the lines out although I've never done it. Could I put a little antifreeze in the drains to help? Advice greatly appreciated!

It is my understanding that a temp of 32 will not damage the system. There is enough ambient heat that was created during the day time that it would have to get much lower than 32 and stay there for a significant amount of time to freeze the systems in the pod. We camped in yellowstone a couple of years ago and the overnight low was 23 and we suffered no damage. For extra peace of mind, you might just put a small space heater in the pod and leave it on overnight.

What podrunner said. 32F is an actual line in the sand, so unless it's well below 32F for a long time you will not see any freezing.

Even something as simple as an incandescent lamp placed close to the water lines can help prevent freezing.

Not for overnight temps above 25 (more or less).
I take the kick panel off in front of the WH & sink and plug in a portable heater set as low as it will go. It only has to be 33 to be perfectly safe.

We have camped, not winterized, below that. No issue. Our city water hose froze once.. took a few minutes of sunshine to thaw it out.. we had water in the FW holding tank, so no issue there either.
