I want to take out the stops at the end of the bench seats that hold the cushions in place. I hate the way they dig into my legs if I sit at the end. Does anyone know what is behind the button that holds them on? A nail head? A screw head? Can I just pry it off? See pic below.

Pop the cap off with a flat blade, unscrew with a philips. Totally simple.

Yes, but now you'll find the plywood resting under the cushions doesn't have a stop to keep it from sliding. You may end up with your butt in the carry space if it slides far enough.

You'll need to glue some wood stops underneath the boards to keep them from sliding.

Good point. I was thinking that it would just be the cushions sliding off. I'm sure I can figure something out that won't be quite so high as the existing stops though.

I never had any problem with the cushions moving after removing those pieces.

DH removed then reattached the end pieces lower down so they still hold the cushion and present a finished look.
