"Falls Lake State Recreation Area is a North Carolina state park in Durham and Wake Counties, North Carolina in the United States. Near Wake Forest, North Carolina, it covers 5,035 acres along the shores of 12,410-acre Falls Lake." -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falls_Lake_State_Recreation_Area - Wikipedia

We stayed on Loop 2 of the Holly Point campground. It is a nice, wooded area along the shores of Falls Lake. This was our first camping trip for this year. It gave us a chance to test out some of the trailer mods I had done on our R-Pod 179 before we use it for longer trips later this year. Falls lake has the advantage of being close to home, which came in handy when we realized we had forgotten to bring a few items.

It also gave us the opportunity to meet another Podder, who also had a 179. While both of ours are 2016 models, his has the latest upgrades, to include the undermount sink and flip foot, which he traded out for an electric jack with a fixed foot. We each got some ideas from the other.

Some things about the park: I knew it had electrical hookups, but missed that it has water also, so we started with and used out freshwater tank which I had filled at home. It does not have a sewage hookup, but there is a dump station, which has room for two to use simultaneously. I have a hose to use for black water tank flushing with both  threaded ends. The one at the dump site does not have a threaded end on the output, so it would be useless for the black water tank flush. The openings are properly recessed at ground level and not elevated like some dump stations I have used. That means that the hose does not need support to flow properly.

While we do not have boating equipment, this is a good place for canoe or kayak owners. It has a small beach for swimming. The beach is subject to closure if the pollution levels rise, which can happen after a heavy rain. There is no lifeguard, but the swimming area is roped off with a floating barrier. There is a separate area for launching power boats. Fishing is an option for those with a North Carolina fishing license. I also saw at least one hiking trail.

The roads are paved. The sites are mostly gravel. There is at least one handicap site which is paved. It is next to the bath house. The bath house is adequate, with plenty of on-demand hot water for showers. It is a bit old and showing that age, but it is okay.

I think this will not be our only trip to this campground.

Thank you for sharing your trip with us.  Another 4 - 6" snow expected tonight and tomorrow in our area.  Spring will eventually come.  Our garden seeds have already germinated indoors!

Anything?  C'mon up to northern Michigan.  We'll leave the front porch light on for ya.  Snow won't start here till about 11 pm, so you better leave soon.

It was quite enjoyable. I am pretty sure it won't be our only trip there.

Stephen, I'm glad we were able to meet up with you at Falls Lake.

My wife and I have been tent camping at Falls Lake for more than 10 years. There are several campgrounds at Falls Lake, but Holly Point is our favorite. The loop we were in is one of the nicer areas because of the beach and water access. It's also a favorite spot for fishing and launching a kayak or canoe.

NC does a pretty good job of maintaining the Falls Lake campgrounds clean and safe. The rangers are always there to lend a hand or keep crowds and large groups in check. We've always had a great time when we go and will continue going for as long as we can. It's our go-to campground when we want to get away for a weekend.

If you enjoyed Falls Lake, I recommend you visit Jordan Lake also. It's off of Hwy 64 past Apex. Also a wonderful campground and great for a 2-4 night stay. There's a Super Target nearby for those last-minute things we always forget and it's very accessible.

See you around.

Well Hogone, the invite is still open, c'mon up.  Actually we are getting quite a few phone calls from golfers in the lower part of Michigan wanting to play.  And with 6" on the ground we have already postponed our opening date for all three of our 18 hole courses.  Probably won't open until a week from this Friday, and that is only tentative.  Next week isn't going to be very warm either.  This global warming has been killing us the past several years.  Not much heat in the north.

It got down below freezing last night and is expected to get down to 31 Saturday night. While it isn't unusual for North Carolina, we have had some wild weather swings. Hopefully, we won't get any more hail like we did a few weeks ago. It was larger than quarter-size and my car sustained about $2,000 worth of damage. I will take it in to the shop later this month to get the dents removed. Unhappy
