We're headed in to our 5th season of podding and I'm still learning about 'things I don't know I don't know'.  We mainly dry camp but occasionally use electrical hookups at our very nice Oregon State Parks. I've never used a surge protector and have had no problems but maybe we've just been lucky.  What are your thoughts about their use and do you think the Camco Power Defender 55310 offers adequate protection.  I sure like the price compared to others.

As always, thanks for the advice!

Rob, strongly recommend using a surge protector, as the cost of one is far less than the cost of replacing electrical bits from high surges such as lightning.   The 55310 is certainly adequate with an energy rating of 1050 joules.

Strongly recommend you read the post on proper grounding, too.  See it at http://www.rpod-owners.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=4748.  Be safe!

The biggest thing you need to worry about is shore power 108 volts and lower.  That will damage your A/C compressor.  It looks like that unit will monitor for low voltage but I didn't see the specs.
