Fellow Podders, The weather has been so nice here in Central Texas I decided to do a little Spring prep on the Pod. I'm still a bit skeptical about de-winterizing just yet. The weather can change here from one extreme to the next really quick. I have a couple questions. Back in the Fall I drained the water heater and the anode was in perfect condition. I took it out again today to put plumber's tape on the threads and found it in the condition in the photo. Any idea what happened? Just trying to figure out why it deteriorated so much while empty. Second question is what do you guys use as a protectant on the seals for the Pod? We do have our first 2016 trip planed for mid March. Your anode rod looks fine, any deterioration you're noticing could just be residual moisture in the tank possibly eating away some of the material? Regardless it still has plenty of life and is good to go. As far as seal maintenance, just grab a can of silicone spray from your local home store. Any of the foam or rubber gaskets, your storage bins, door, slideout, windows etc, spray them with silicone, be sure to do both sides if they are rubber flaps and clean them with the silicone. They'll be clean shiny and good to go until your next seal maintenance, every 90 days! Another question. Reading through my WDH manual under the maintenance section, it states "the head ends of the spring bars and their tubes should be lubricated before each trip. It just says "well lubricated." My question is what type lubricant do you use? From my personal experience with the E2, I do not lubricate the hitch. Too messy when you remove the bars. If you prefer I would suggest a silicone based lubricant on the head end only. Never lubricate the rear ends that slide on the hangers.
