The unit mentioned by Don Halas will work well, as will it's big brother

and others. The added voltmeter will help in battery management.  Whichever one you choose, wire it directly to an unused slot on the power panel with 12AWG wire. Do not tap into existing wiring. This has been described many times on this forum. Search the posts.

Charlie, I installed this unit wiring the 12v and USB each into empty open slots, but I kind of had to guess on the voltmeter so I wired the positive from it to the same slot as the incoming positive line from the batteries (negative to ground buss bar.) It seems to work fine. OK?

You overkilled it, but that's fine. Not much benefit to separating the USB and 12V socket since the USB port takes so little current. They could both have been connected to the same new slot. The voltmeter needs to have a clean shot to the battery, which you did. If all three were wired to a single slot the VM would only be truly accurate if nothing were plugged in to the other two. You solved that problem although you still want to minimize ALL 12V loads when taking a voltage reading for the purpose of determining battery condition. Overall, good job.

Where are most people mounting theirs and how difficult is it to run the wiring to the power panel?
