Hello this is David,

I am new to the group having recently purchased an RPOD 178.   Hope to learn a lot of helpful tips and tricks for operating and handling our unit.   Took our first trip this weekend.  Had a great time and very happy with the unit.  We did however have one significant issue to deal with.  The dealer sold me a Husky sway control bar.  Unfortunately I adjusted it like the directions said (i.e.; bottom out the threads on the lever to tighten)  After part of the trip which included a rather tight turn to the gas pumps, I noticed that I had bent the receiver ball portion of the sway control bar.

Can someone please advise how tight the friction control should be?  Should it allow movement of the telescoping bar easily?  Also I watched a Youtube on this bar and one of the videos indicated you could back up and make U -turns with no problem.   The dealer said always disconnect if you have to back up with any angle at all.  While it is relatively easy and quick to disconnect, that will be a pain to remember every time.

I pull my 178 with a a new GMC Canyon (mid size pickup- 6 cylinder).  It handled it very nicely however we only traveled from South Alabama to St. Pete Beach Florida, which is relatively flat.  Anxious to see how it does in the mountains.

Any and all helpful comments would be wonderful.

David

When we first used our friction sway bar on our 177 the dealer told me to tighten it until snug and take it down the road for a test.  I got a little sway on it so I pulled off the road and tightened it down another 1/2 turn and it took care of the problem.  It was noted that when backing up to "LOOSEN" the lever all the way so that you don't end up with the result you had.  One time I forgot to do that and upon backing up noticed the pod wouldn't respond to me turning, it then dawned on me "silly" loosen the bar, and then I was able to easily back into my camp spot.
