After several months of research in this Forum, we got R-pod 172 in May 2015 driving 4 hours from Seattle area to Salem, OR.  We are totally new to RV.  We go to hiking mostly State and National parks and forests, so R-pod 172 is a best much to our camping style.  I sleep on the lower bank bed and my hubby found comfortable sleeping on the dinette bed.  So we can put all gears, food, and clothes on the upper bed (removed a mat).  We didn’t know anything about RV at all but learned everything from this forum.  If not this forum, we didn’t purchase R-pod. Thank you guys!  We did 4 nights dry camping at Jasper, Canada in August.  Next April we are going to National Parks in Utah for 2 weeks including dry camping for 7 consecutive nights.  So we are researching solar panels and already learned a lot from this forum.  Oh, one thing we noticed when travel.  People seemed to like Pod.  Some people smiled at us, well actually at our Pod on a road, some came to talk to us about Pod at a campground, someone drove back and forth to take a good look of our Pod at a rest area, and someone stood for a couple minutes behind our Pod checking a detail.  Yah, Pods are cute! LOL

Welcome,

We are down the road a bit in the Tacoma area and have enjoyed our 177 for 3 years.  Although I have not heard yet of a 2016 event, there have been events the last three late Augusts along the Oregon Coast for Northwest R-pod and Forest River owners. Usually about 30 - 40 R-pods and two evening get togethers. Keep watching to see if an event is scheduled for this year.

Welcome!  We do a lot of drycamping as well and due to my responsibilities as a golf course superintendent normally don't get to do multiple day camping trips except in spring and fall.  Because of this we special ordered our pod so it doesn't have A/C or convection oven.  We do have 2 marine batteries however and have been able to get 4 days minimum out of one before switching to the other.  This is when temps dip below 40 at night so it gets used a fair amount.  We also switched all our interior lights to LED's to minimize battery drain.

jato, a quick note that you'll get more total amps from dual batts if you use them together.

Thanks for the info Doug.  What I have are 2 deep cycle 12 volt batteries and not being an electrician was afraid I would toast something if they were hooked together.  If I double the amperage what advantages am I going to realize?  Thanking you in advance for your expert wisdom in this.
