After reading about the pros and cons of getting a cover for our 2016 Rpod 179, my wife and I decided to order one from Camping World.  I went online on October 19 and placed the order with a 5-7 day shipping plan.  The same day my credit card was charged.  Now, over 3 weeks later, it hasn't arrived.

I called Camping World and they said it was "Drop Shipped" which seems to mean that they're a front for a factory that produces them and ships them directly to me.  Fine, but why hasn't it come?  The online help woman said she looked into it and it was backordered until Dec. 26!

The Camping World website didn't indicate that they weren't in stock and I thought that a vendor couldn't charge you for something until it was shipped, unless it was something like a "special order", which this definitely was not.

I called my Discover, the credit card I use, and they just said "it's up to the vendor's policy".

I could get a refund I was told, but then I thought I'd be back in line until February or later and it would be useless.

Does anyone have any experience in any of this?

Thanks,

John in New Mexico

I've experienced something similar before and eventually cancelled an order and got refunded after it was going to take several months to be in stock again.

That said, covers for Pods often have a run on them in the Fall Early Winter like this and go out of stock for a while.  That part is at least not uncommon.

Drop shipping is used by many retailers, often for large/bulky items. That way the cost of shipping and warehousing is minimized. Helps to keep costs down. Anytime you order something in peak season, you stand a chance of having to wait. Supply and demand and all that.

I can understand the delay in being able to send the order at this time of year, but I can't understand:

1) they don't tell you about the 2 month back order date

2) the charging of one's credit card two months before the order is completed when it's not a special order item.

That is odd, yes.

There may be hope for our order, sooner or later, even though it was paid a month ago.
