The battery boxes sit right where the rain run off pours onto them and because they have little vents water does get into the boxes. Is this a problem in any way? Could it damage the batteries? The trailer? Be dangerous? (I have read the grounding warning.)

An inch or two of water sitting in the bottom of the battery box isn't going to hurt the battery in the slightest. I suppose the box could fill and the water might cause a short across the terminals... but the odds are extremely low. All the same, you may want to do what I did: drill some weeping holes in the bottom of the battery box.
