we have had the Turtle out twice now, and each time, some random person at a camp ground (Usfs camp ground in the Sierras, if that matters) commented "nice rig.  how much did it cost?"    I find this pretty rude.   Is this common?

I have decided my stock reply will be "I don't really know - it was a gift".   My husband said "$60k" and they looked pretty confused.

I have never been asked "how much" I guess if it bothers me if and when someone does I'll provide a range "they go anywhere from $$$ to $$$" I don't think I would find it absolutely rude. It would depend on the context and situation in which it was asked. I try not to sweat the small stuff. Smile

I have had a lot of people stop for a look/tour. they ask all kinds of questions and on occaision they will ask how much. I havent taken it as rude. Just curious.

Definitely be prepared for lots of tours, although not as many as the early pod owners. I wouldn't take questions on price as rude, but you are certainly entitled to withhold what you paid. Maybe giving a general range, like Podster suggested, would be fair? I think in this age of instant information questions on things like price are less taboo than before - smart phones and the internet make it easy to find out while you are standing right there. In my state I can look up how much you paid for your house, get a plat (map) of your property and find out how much your land tax is. Sites like kbb.com and zillow.com let you look up current values of cars and houses and all the related stats. You can look up the salaries of state and federal employees, etc. etc.

Pod pricing has come up here many times and several people respond each time (including me). For the record our 2010 171 cost right around $12,500 with all options.

Gotta agree with Techntrek. Anyone who asks, I am happy to share the cost. The relatively low purchase price could entice them to look further into purchasing a Pod. I recently went to my local dealer to inspect a 180. During our conversation, I asked what my 2013 171 HRE is worth. Said he didn't know as they don't have any used ones on the lot. They are currently selling between 15-20 new Pods a month. Safe Travels.

I moved the campground etiquette question to its own thread in the Misc. section.

I simply say that the list price is about 22K, and I paid about 16K.
I don't see any problem with that, if I was the one asking, I'd be wondering about ballpark figures anyway.
